Lola Tillyaeva’s debut book ‘Be Your Own Harmonist’ is a guide to building a balanced life

Lola Tillyaeva manages to cram an astonishing amount into her day. Entrepreneur, environmental activist, author and humanitarian are just some of the roles that she has juggled. In addition to that, she also holds a doctorate in psychology. So it’s not surprising that the question Lola is often asked is how she manages such a diverse range of responsibilities. In her book, Be Your Own Harmonist: Awakening Your Inner Wisdom for Physical, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing, we can find the answer to this question.

The aim of Lola Tillyaeva’s ‘Be Your Own Harmonist’ is to share some of the strategies she has employed in her life to harmonize the competing demands upon her time and energy. Be Your Own Harmonist, she says, is “a merging of science and spirituality – a union she considers crucial to the future of human progress. An all-encompassing solution for unlocking your intuition and living to your greatest potential.”

Along with her remarkable personal experience, the book draws upon decades of research. When taken together, they have led Lola to the conclusion that the “delicate interplay between our physical, emotional and mental wellness” is critical to leading a richer, balanced and satisfying life.

Lola Tillyaeva opens the book with a discussion of biology. . She talks about the issue of chronic inflammation and the role yoga can play in managing that problem. The importance of regular sleep routines and healthy eating habits are also explored. Next, the book looks at psychological and emotional health. Lola explores topics like brain plasticity, meditation and breathwork. She outlines practical applications for the reader to employ in their own life. To conclude Be Your Own Harmonist, explains how the reader can access their heart intelligence to build emotional resilience – something that is becoming more significant in today’s competitive society.

In the end, Lola also offers some reflections on the underappreciated positive influence of forgiveness.

The link between forgiveness and positive mental health is now garnering wider research and recognition. For instance, as reported by the American Psychological Association, research has shown that forgiveness is linked to mental health outcomes such as reduced anxiety, depression and major psychiatric disorders, as well as with fewer physical health symptoms and lower mortality rates.”

On reading the book, it is obvious Lola Tillyaeva has not only made effective use of her formal, academic studies, she has also drawn from other, more eclectic sources of knowledge. One good example of this is the ancient Eastern philosophy of Feng Shui. Anyone familiar with how she has applied the tradition at her perfume house, The Harmonist, would find echoes of it in this book also.

Reviewing the book, Professor Kennedy of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in Singapore wrote, as the author Lola Till states, many great thinkers have tried to answer life’s great questions, using different knowledge bases to come to a range of answers. This journey is one everyone should take for themselves, and this book can serve as a roadmap for people to find their own answers to life’s essential questions.”
